We are seeking:
In Faculty IV: School of Science and Technology, Department of Physics, to begin on 1.1.26, a
University Professor (W2)
of Detector Physics in the field of microstructured semiconductor detectors for high-energy physics experiments
Your Responsibilities:
You will represent the field of experimental particle physics in research and teaching. Your research offers a variety of links with the existing and future coordinated projects of the Center for Particle Physics Siegen (CPPS). Significant research contributions will be made in the thematic area of the Cluster of Excellence initiative “Color meets Flavor” and a collaboration with the University of Bonn, the Technical University of Dortmund and the Jülich Research Center. Visible participation in the relevant CERN DRD collaborations is expected.
The professorship is part of the Center for Particle Physics Siegen (CPPS). You will work closely with experts in experimental and theoretical particle physics and experimental astroparticle physics. The faculty offers opportunities to use the central laboratory building INCYTE. Active participation in profile development and coordinated research projects is expected.
In teaching, you will represent the full range of physics. In addition to the bachelor's program, you will design courses in the master's program with a focus on particle physics, including joint courses in German and English with the University of Bonn and the Technical University of Dortmund, as well as the related bachelor's and master's programs of the faculty IV. Your innovative ideas for the further development of teaching and student recruitment are welcome.
You will play an active and constructive role in the university's self-governing bodies and in the structures of our coordinated study programs.
Your profile:
- You fulfill the legal employment requirements of § 36 Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia. More information on these requirements can be found at service.uni-siegen.de/prof
- You have internationally recognized expertise in the field of detector physics in the area of microstructered semiconductor detectors (strip or pixel detectors) for particle physics experiments, which is documented in relevant international publications
- You have experience in acquiring third-party funding and in leading or coordinating research groups in large scale particle physics projects
- You have gained initial experience in teaching
A research profile with a focus on the following areas is expected
- Simulation and characterization of semiconductor detectors
- Development of detector systems
- Detector design and operation
- Sensor and/or readout chip design
- Semiconductor detector data readout
