We seek:

In the Faculty IV: School of Science and Technology, ETI, Embedded Systems, we are looking for a researcher  as of the 01.02.2026  at the following conditions (PhD position):

  • 50% = 19,92 hours  
  • Pay grade 13  TV-L
  • limited  30.11.2028

Your tasks:

  • Develop AI algorithms for real-time fault detection, fault classification, and failure-mode prediction in distributed charging and energy-management environments as part of the BANNER research project 
  • Investigate fault-tolerance and fault-recovery mechanisms for decentralized edge AI hardware/software.
  • Contribute to designing and evaluating scheduling algorithms for virtualized or distributed AI resources under varying load, latency, and failure conditions.
  • Build and test a scenario generator for hardware- and software-level failure modes (e.g., bit flips, memory contention, node unresponsiveness).
  • Support the integration and demonstration of the developed AI techniques within the BANNER project for bidirectional connection of commercial vehicles for greater grid stability and increased efficiency 

Your profile:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML methods and frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Basic understanding of embedded systems and communication protocols (TCP, UDP; TSN desirable).
  • Familiarity with fault detection, system reliability, or fault-mitigation techniques.
  • Strong programming skills (C/C++, Python; hardware-description languages “e.g., HLS, VHDL” is a plus).
  • Motivation to pursue a PhD and contribute to applied AI research.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
