Research Assistant - research on synchrotron radiation

We seek:

In the Faculty IV: School of Science and Technology, Department of Physics / Research Group of Prof. Gutt, we aim to fill an open position with a researcher  based at DESY, Hamburg, (Beamline P04/PETRA III) starting as soon as possible with following conditions:

  • 75% = 29,87 hours  
  • Salary scale 13  TV-L
  • limited  for three years

Your tasks:

  • Participation in a German-Swedish collaboration project with Universities of Siegen, Lund, Uppsala and Stockholm and research centres DESY, HZB Berlin, Max Born Institute Berlin. The goal of the project is to measure dynamics in 2D and 3D systems with coherent synchrotron radiation (XPCS).
  • Collaboration, preparation, and participation on beamlines at DESY, Hamburg and other synchrotron radiation sources (e.g. MAX IV, Lund)
  • Participation in the commissioning of a TimePix detector for soft X-rays at the beamline P04/PETRA III, DESY.
  • Data analysis.

Your profile:

  • Good scientific university degree (Master or comparable) in physics or a related discipline close to solid state physics.
  • Experience with experiments in the field of x-ray diffraction.
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Very good English language skills.
